“Everyone, may I have your attention!” Jinn turned to see their leader, Gren, standing on a tall rock and preparing to speak.
“Everyone!” He shouted again, “We have finally been able to achieve what we have been trying for thousands of years. We have finally made a gateway to the world we once lived in so long ago. A paradise that has everything we will ever need to live a wonderful life. Me and a group of brave souls will venture through the portal and create a new home for us. We will then get the vengeance that we have been thirsting for, make the others pay for putting us into this hell!” Gren smiled coldly and watched as the crowd roared and threw fists in the air, electrified with the energy of pure hatred.
“All the individuals that have been chosen for this trip, start bringing all the supplies to the portal so we can begin our mission. My son Creed will watch over the rest of you while we are gone.” Gren signaled for a young but serious looking demon to come forward. “Now everyone, start getting ready!” Another roar rippled through the crowd and Jinn’s heart pounded with anticipation as leaned over to grab the threadbare bag in front of her. She was one of the few chosen to go on this mission and she had been training her whole life for this one moment. Before she walked towards the portal she turned and found her father in the crowd. You would expect a nod of reassurance or a big smile but instead she was hit with a cold stone glare. She flinched as she turned away. She knew what that look meant. Do not fail the mission, do not fail the rest of the tribe, and most importantly don’t fail her father. She can not fail. With a deep breath, she joined the single file line that was forming and prepared herself. Her best friend, Caym, walked behind her and put a hand on her shoulder.
“We can do this. You…can do this. We will succeed.” Jinn turned around and smiled shakily at him and he gave a comforting smile back. With another deep breath, she turned around and slowly the line crawled forward but it seemed too soon when it was finally her turn to walk through the archway. This was it. The moment they have all been waiting for. She could not fail them. Closing her eyes, she walked forward into the deep red vortex. A zap of static ran through her and then a bright light was coming through her eyelids. A cool breeze kissed her cheek as she finally got the courage to open her eyes. Jinn gasped in amazement at the world in front of her. What hit her first was how many colors there were. She never knew there was more than black, gray, and red. The sky was a bright cheerful color, not the haunting red that waited on the other side of the portal. She walked forward and took a deep breath and gasped, the air so clean and cool in her lungs. In front of her was a beautiful lake and around her were plants everywhere. The big plant she swore was called a tree and it was one of the most beautiful things she has ever seen. There was so much more but she could barely process it. Then another surge of anger went through her. She could have had a childhood in this land but it was stripped away. Jinn then heard a gasp from Caym behind her and turned around to see him pointing at her tail with wide eyes. She looked down to see that the fur at the tip was slowly turning the color of the sky.
