Five Thousand (One-shot Fanfic)

[ENTRY 48..✍]

It was him. The spiky dark-haired guy who never missed a shot. The moment she witnessed how he fought off those zombies from the week before, especially his expertise in shooting (may it be guns or sling shots), she was left entranced. The guy was the epitome of a humble badass who had taken quite a space in her mind ever since that mind-blowing combat. She couldn't believe they'd run into his deadly group once again and that she'd be standing right next to him in this fine afternoon. Well, besides the apocalypse, that is, the afternoon was fine. Peaceful, even, apart from a few living dead staggering here and there from afar.

"What's your name?" she finally asked after spending a subtle observation on his comportment and appearance. He carried an aura of that mysterious and quiet kid you shouldn't be messing around with. And to make it typical, a cute one at that, too.

The guy turned to face her. They were both leaning back on a wrecked car parked on the side of the road. "Ten Thousand," he replied. "But my friends call me 10K."

His response rather furrowed her eyebrows. "10K?" she repeated in confusion. If people were using fake names now, he had quite chosen an odd one. "Why?"

But then his answer only rendered her more impressed. "That's the number of Z's I'm going to kill."

She blinked and stood there with that entranced look she had made last week again, lips parted open. Chuckling and glancing away towards the vast space of dry land that stretched before them, hoping to shake off the blush creeping on her cheeks, she casually licked her lips before returning her eyes to him and inquiring, "And how many have you mercied now?"

The young man creased his brows to recall, then said: "3 627."

"Damn," escaped her mouth. Quite a number, indeed. How could he be so amazing? She was gazing at him in complete awe and astonishment. "Well in that case, I'm Five Thousand," she finally declared.

His face broke into an amused smile. "Which means..?"

Her expression relaxed but there was a playful confidence in her tranquility as she continued to stare at him. "Your other half."

It took him two seconds to understand what she meant, just in time a laughter erupted from the other side of the car.

"Oohoo! Good one, kid!" Doc cheered with a massive grin on his visage. "You all heard that, right?" The old man gleefully turned around towards the rest of the party who shared their hollers of agreements and teasing; and Murphy, being Murphy, discreetly imparted his thoughts to Warren and Addy.

"Now we might just be looking at the girl who'll finally pop the kid's cherry."

Warren gave him a look of repugnance, although amusement was still apparent on her face. And as much as Addy wanted to find inappropriateness with what the obnoxious man said, because, well.. knowing him, everything that came out of his mouth usually reeked of insensitivity and egotism, she couldn't deny to share the same thought either because she basically gave 10K a box of condoms and encouraged him that his time, too, would come, even in the midst of a goddamn apocalypse.

Looking at him now, the poor kid could only fluster and chuckle a laugh of flattered embarrassment, which only made him even cuter to the girl right next to him.
