The Cage (The Gateway)

Like a rabbit he enters the cave alarmed

The door is shut behind him

There is no escape

No going back

Now he must decide whether he likes it and stays

Or whether he will seek to escape

Will he, like a rabbit, explore every nook

Check every corner, dig where it seems there's a weakness

Or will he simply flop down

And accept that this is a prison.

If he likes it, perhaps it is paradise

But still no escape can be known

If he doesn't like it...

What will he do?

Will he endlessly seek to escape?

Will he learn new ways to adapt?

Will he seek to enjoy something not enjoyed?

Will he live to the fullest or seek to the fullest?

If he accepts, he still has two choices:

He can make the best of it and smile and have a great life

The cage has become his gateway to contentment

Or he can grumble and pine and have a poor life

The cage has become his gateway to misery

If he doesn't accept it

And refuses to quit

Perhaps one day he will find that weakness

And enter a different world not constrained by the cage

The cage has become his gateway to strength
