July 12, 2019 Sree's call

Dear Diary,

Sree called in the morning today. I was running late for work, but I took the call anyway. It’s not everyday that sree calls :P..dunno she never picks up when i call, and even if she does, she always has the ‘call u back in a bit’ monologue ready to play.

We talked for 10 mins. To be honest, i couldn’t hear much of what she said, i was trying hard to put together stuff from the bits and pieces I heard. So what’s news for her….

She seemed very happy in her marriage. Her hubby’s working in dubai, so she’s happy staying with her parents meanwhile. Job’s good. It’s funny, she hated coding in college,..and now she codes for a living :D...And me, the reverse. lol

We talked a bit about our batchmates. Hari. Nishara emigrated to Canada..That was a surprise! But why is everyone going to Canada these days? Vini's down with chickenpox. We also joked about Sreehari's matrimony profile on Shaadi.com...lol. dude won't even find a job, but wants a doctor for wife :D :D

Then a bit about athira and arjun. Ah well..she told me, they broke up. I felt a little sad, since they were the most celebrated couple in our batch. But it always seemed like the inevitable ending to me…..but it would’ve been heresy to say it out loud then. Who likes to hear practical stuff in college?? Athira got really depressed by it and she couldn’t take her GATE exams well. So she’s planning to repeat again….

When I heard about her, I couldn’t help contrasting her situation with sree’s. Sree never had a bf in college, she didn’t have much expectations with love life,....she just went with the flow. It wasn’t that she didn’t find guys attractive or anything, off course,...she was ready to accept whoever her parents found for her, and put her faith in that marriage.

And look at her now, she’s happy and content. They get along well. It may not be all fairytales 24*7 between them,..but at least her expectations and reality matched,..actually, going by the sound of it, her reality surpassed her expectations. Now isn’t that a positive twist?

We talked about all the other girls in our class. I knew a fair number of them were struggling with job hunting when we graduated. They’ve all found jobs now or have moved onto higher education...I’m really happy for them. I think life has been fairly kind to all of us.
