The Way Of Indecision

I came upon what once was a tree
Down by the cemetery
I had to look twice to see it again
Down the alley that I ran
It had grown into a chainlink fence
The grains had turned all gnarled and tense
The branches and leaves nowhere to be seen
There was nothing left of it that was green
A trunk alone dried up and old
The statement that I heard was bold
This is the way of the undecided
This is why they are derided
Their destinies held captive by the fence
Their lives end up departing hence
And what is left but half a life
Tore up by self-inflicted strife
I heard one say a bad decision
Is still better than no decision
One can repent and change
An erring way once seen
But where there is no motion made
Beware the fence unseen
