Dear Diary,

Read an entry by Terminal about justice and injustice and it reminded me of what I was studying currently on the Courseca app in Political Philosophy. Right now I have just finished with the Ancient Greeks, the Sophists.

Since I am tired right now Im gonna keep this short and only talk about one little concept while his comment could be expanded on what is in the class and go on...forever.

So the Sophists were teachers at that time of arete, what we call virtue. Issues of morality and stuff. The big thing about these teachers though is that they were paid. Paid teachers of morality.

The big issue with Greeks and then when Socrates and Plato come in was in the climate at the time no one wanted to be called a Sophist anymore. You could teach anything but if you get paid to teach virtue and had a student who committed an immoral act, the punishment, exile, torture, execution, was on your head. All because there was an exchange of money.

So when you talk about justice and money, in a way, here is an issue. And that teachers, at the time, were paid to teach morals, is crazy, right? They were basically the first self help coaches around. But that is like a priest being paid to teach.

WHen I was younger I was on a sort of spiritual quest after my son died. I was lost and need to find something, anything. So I sought out a teacher in Wicca. Wiccan teachers rent supposed to be paid. This lady however, was all about the money. So she told me she wanted to teach me Metaphysics first, as a basis. And of course, the teaching cost me 100 dollars a week.

The thing that pissed me off though was when I could no longer afford the classes. When I told her this she got instantly pissed and insisted I continue to pay for another few weeks, like I had subsribed to the classes, or had enrolled and needed to finish paying off the course. We had no arrangement like that and I had never intended to pay for courses in the beginning, never really had the money to spare. Plus I was in the midst of dealing with my first child passing.

Money makes the world terrible. But it opens every door and takes down every brick wall you find in your journey. Just wish I had some now...especially since rent is due today and we are broke.

Anyone wanna learn Metaphysics? LOL>
