I mean, I always think I'd rather have the MC become cold and uncaring because I want them to protect themselves. 
To stop getting hurt by others or what they say.

But that's kind of contradictory when I'm quite the self-conscious fellow. The idea is that I'll only find real friends in the people who don't mind how I look or the way I function. But regardless of that, my current social circle is good enough for me. It's not like I'm completely alone. 

...I just want to be ugly in peace.
