Dear Diary,
Kind of conflicted on how that played out but at the same time I was following the orders so....meh.
No winners that day.
Was doing my normal Friday at work. 4pm-12am and a customer came into the store. Sat on a bench and just played with his phone throughout much of the day.
For whatever reason he started having a seizure. He went to get up. His body locked up. Fell back onto the bench where he slid off and fell onto the floor. Hit his head off the floor with a loud Pop sound before finally starting to convulse.
I'm first aid cpr trained. Used to be a firefighter but company law dictates I can't touch customers because they can turn around and sue the company so all I could do is clear the area and try to contact a manager at the store I'm stationed at.
Needless to say it didn't go well. Managers rarely ever respond. Eventually two off duty emts showed up and helped the guy. They eventually called a ambulance for him after noting blood coming out of his mouth.
Now because I didn't help people are joking about me and talking crap about me behind my back which is fine. I'm use to it and I know I deserve it after how it looks like I handled the situation to other people.
Still.
I think job wise I made the right call. As a person though, I know I could of helped. I've been trained for situations like that.
Annoys me.
After two events in my childhood I had vowed to not let a situation like this happen again...yet...here we are.
In case you are wondering he is fine. It's assumed by the emts and cops that he was faking it. Trying to draw attention from someone else in the store, evidenced by the fact that someone attempted to push out a emergency exit not soon after he fell off the bench.
He reentered and was walking around the store for hours after the ambulance left.
Faking or not it still bugs me.
