Music to Cope

I'm just curious. How significant is music to you and your life? I grew up listening to music of all kinds. I used to keep my parents (or whomever was supervising me that day) waiting outside of public bathrooms as a kid because the acoustics were amazing, and I wanted to sing.

In middle school, I was the only kid who still used a cassette player, while everyone else had the luxturies of CD and MP3 players. I didn't really mind, I enjoyed making mix tapes to listen to on my bus rides to and from school. I also enjoyed making mix tapes for my crushes and close friends as a means to express my feelings.

If one thing has been constant in my life, that would be music. It has helped me through my darkest depressions, made me hopeful and liberated when I felt helpless, and helped me relax to sleep when sleep evaded me.

The evolution of music, and music technology is profound. It intrigues me daily.

To this day I sing. In my car, in my room, and if I am feeling brave maybe at Kareoke or at an Open Mic. When people ask me what kind of music I like, I don't know how to answer because in reality, I can appreciate it all.

Music is a HUGE coping skill of mine, and I can't imagine my life without music.

To those who don't listen to music (I know you're out there because I've met a few) I question your morality and your ability to process your emotions in a healthy manner!
